Modelling artificial ultrasound images of ovaries

چکیده

A new algorithm for creating artificial images (phantoms) of ovaries is presented. The entire process of a phantom formation is divided into two parts. First, an ovary with ovarian follicles is modelled. The ovary is approximated with a cube, while the follicles are assumed ellipsoids with excrescences on their surface. Afterwards a model of the ultrasound scanning process is set. The probe is modelled as a plane with a fixed orientation. Scanning the ovary with the probe actually corresponds to cutting the ovary with the plane. Finally, the obtained slices through the ovary are postprocessed by a program called Field [10]—an effect of scattered ultrasound is added, and thus the artificial ultrasound images of ovaries are formed. The phantoms obtained in this way proved to be very similar to the real ultrasound images of the ovaries.
